Ever since last week’s fatal accident, in which an autonomous test vehicle from Uber struck a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona, it seems like the whole world has united against the company. Among them: guarded titillation, with many — your author included — envisioning a retro-themed alternative reality in which slab-sided Continentals remain the pinnacle of roadgoing luxury. A crossover-free world in which the 1961 […] The post QOTD: Cruel, Cynical Tease, or a Return to Past Glory? appeared first on The Truth About Cars. from The Truth About Cars http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2018/03/qotd-sick-cynical-tease-return-past-glory/ via Loving My Cars https://lovingmycars.blogspot.com/2018/03/qotd-cruel-cynical-tease-or-return-to.html Earlier this month, GMC revealed its all-new full-size pickup truck, the Sierra. Styled to better differentiate itself from the new Chevrolet Silverado, the 2019 Sierra offers several unique features such as its trick six-position tailgate and an optional carbon-fiber composite bed. Today, GMC announced the Sierra will get a new off-road version called the AT4. Not to be confused with the rocket launcher that shares its name, the AT4 gets more than a blacked-out grille and an appearance package. GMC outfitted the Sierra AT4 with a 2-inch lift, much like Chevy did with the 2019 Silverado Z71. It also gets a locking rear differential, skid plates, Rancho monotube shocks, red tow hooks, and 18-inch wheels wearing either all-terrain or mud-terrain tires. If you choose the optional 20-inch wheels you can’t get mud tires, however. Under the hood, the Sierra AT4 gets a 5.3-liter V-8 and an eight-speed automatic, but buyers have the option of adding either a 6.2-liter V-8 or the new 3.0-liter diesel inline-six, both of which are paired with a 10-speed automatic. Regardless of the engine choice, four-wheel drive comes standard, as does a two-speed transfer case. We doubt the Sierra AT4 will be able to tackle the kind of terrain the Ram 2500 Power Wagon and Ford F-150 Raptor were built for, but it should be a much more capable off-roader than your run-of-the-mill Sierra. Over the next few years, the AT4 package will find its way into other GMC vehicles, too.“The 2019 Sierra AT4 is designed for the customer who wants an elevated presence on the road and the capability to venture off life’s beaten path,” said Duncan Aldred, global head of GMC, in a release. “It’s also the beginning for the AT4 brand, which will be seen on every vehicle in our lineup in the next two years.” Look for the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 to arrive in dealerships later this fall with pricing announced closer to its on-sale date.
